Sanctions cost Syria almost $5 billion: oil minister

DAMASCUS (AFP) - Western sanctions on Syria for its deadly crackdown on dissent have cost the country almost US$4 billion (S$5 billion) and caused shortages in fuel products, Oil Minister Sufian Allaw said on Wednesday.
