Olympic Medal Totals: Tally as of Aug. 11 AMPatch: El Cerrito, CA

As the Olympics close their exciting two weeks on the world stage this weekend, the medal rankings find the United States in a commanding lead both in gold and overall medals.

China holds a solid second place in both categories, while Russia ranks third in total medals and host nation Great Britian holds a comfortable third place in gold.

Among the highlights Friday was the record-shattering gold medal victory by the U.S. women's 400-meter relay team, who ran the course in 40.82 seconds, easily beating the previous 41.37-second record set by East Germany in 1985.

And while Sunday still holds much excitement in the way of competition, including the gold medal basketball battle between the U.S. and Spain, there's also growing buzz over the anticipated music offerings for the closing ceremonies.

The exact line-up is being kept under wraps, reported the Los Angeles Timesext, but those considered likely to perform are the Spice Girls, the Who and Adele.

Here is the Olympic medal count as of 2:00 a.m. Pacific time today, Sat., Aug. 11, according to the 2012 London Olympicsext
