Winehouse Own Blood Portrait, Winehouse Own Blood Portrait Auctioned By Pete Doherty, Winehouse blood, Amy Winehouse Gaultier---This week, a self-portrait of Amy Winehouse will be auctioned off by Pete Doherty, which is made by Amy’s own blood. The piece was entitled Ladylike.
Pete Doherty was the friend and former rumored lover of Winehouse. The auction will be held at the Cob Gallery in London on Friday, as part of an exhibition of Doherty’s blood-infused works called, ‘On Blood: A Portrait of the Artist’.
It is estimated to sell for more than 100,000 on Friday at the Cob Gallery in London. Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011.
Her album Back to Black subsequently became the UK’s best selling album of the 21st century. In 2012, Winehouse was listed at number 26 on VH1′s 100 Greatest Women In Music.
Before his gallery opened, Doherty revealed the circumstances behind Winehouse’s self-portrait. “She was on the phone with her dad when she did that [painting],” Doherty explained. “She said, ‘Dad, I’m with Pete and he’s making me draw with my blood!’ He didn’t like me much, her dad.”
However, Amy’s father Mitch has denied she created the painting with her blood.
Other select items, which are expected to fetch between £50 to £12,000, from the former Libertines frontman’s work and life include his iconic military jackets, notebooks, and his writing desk decorated with traditional French design and with secret panels and drawers. It comes complete with profanities engraved into it.
The works showcase Doherty’s “arterial splatter” technique.
Doherty, who has had his own fair share of troubled headlines, helpfully explained his exhibition, “Blood plays the starring role in my work.”
Peter Doherty is an English musician, writer, actor, poet and artist. He is best known musically for being co-frontman of The Libertines, which he reformed with Carl Barât in 2010.
His other musical project is indie band Babyshambles. In 2005, Doherty became prominent in tabloids, the news media, and pop culture blogs because of his romantic relationship with model Kate Moss and his frequently-publicised drug addictions.
