Hairdresser Felicia Boots, 34, remains in police custody after being arrested at her semi-detached home in Killarney Road, south-west London, following the deaths of her 10-week-old son and 14-month old daughter.

Nearby residents have since described their shock at hearing of the tragic deaths, describing the two new arrivals in the neighbourhood as appearing to be ‘a typical middle class couple’.

One witness said investment banker Mr Boots, also 34, was heard screaming for help after coming home, before police arrived shortly afterwards.

Police sources have suggested Mrs Boots could have been suffering from post-natal depression.

Mr and Mrs Boots had only recently moved into their new three-storey home near Wandsworth Common.

Near neighbour Jackie Cook, 52, said she had not yet got to know the couple, who only bought the house this month, but said they had seemed 'very nice'.

'It's such a tragedy, I can't believe it,' Mrs Cook said.

'Last night there were police swarming everywhere. There were ambulances and police cars all along the road.

'I think they only moved a couple of weeks ago.'

In a statement, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: 'Police were called to an address in Killarney Road, SW18, at 7.25pm on Wednesday 9 May.

'The ambulance service also attended but a 10-week old boy and a one-year old girl were pronounced dead at the scene.

'A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Next of kin are aware.

'A woman in her mid-30s was arrested in connection with the incident. She is currently in custody at a south London police station.

'Detectives from the Child Abuse Investigation Command are leading the investigation, and inquiries continue into the full circumstances of the incident.'
