Boris Johnson promises jobs as he wins second term as Mayor of London

*Boris Johnson has promised that job creation for young people in the capital will be his main focus after he won his second election campaign to become Mayor of London.*

The election was forced into a second round, after neither Mr Johnson nor Labour candidate Ken Livingstone managed to garner 50 per cent of the first preferences.

Boris Johnson has focused on job creation after his second election win.

The end result saw Mr Johnson re-elected for a second term, beating Mr Livingstone by a slim three per cent, on a night where he was expected to command a much higher proportion of the vote.

In his victory speech, Mr Johnson said: 'I will dedicate myself to making sure that Londoners and above all, young Londoners, are ready to take the jobs that this amazing city creates.'

He also promised to fight for a 'good deal for Londoners from the government that will help us deliver prosperity for everybody in this city'.

Meanwhile, Mr Livingstone said that he was sorry Labour could not pull out the victory in London, and intimated that this would be his last election campaign.

The victory was one piece of good news for the Conservative Party, after an election campaign which saw it lose considerable ground to Labour, and led to prime minister David Cameron apologising to councillors for the heavy country-wide defeats.
