Hugo Lloris sees Tottenham transfer go cold over Lyon's £16m asking price

Spurs stood firm with their offer of £12m up until Lyon’s July 15 deadline to increase it, although the goalkeeper’s representatives are still said to be trying to force through a move.

The latest development is a blow for new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, who had made securing Lloris a priority after being unimpressed with club's goalkeeping options.

Tottenham have 41-year-old Brad Friedel and his mistake-prone deputy Heurelho Gomes at their disposal and Lloris was earmarked to give the club long-term stability between the sticks.

Spurs had one offer of £10m rejected and were unwilling to go above £12m - much to frustration of the French goalkeeper.

Tottenham have now changed their focus to Inter Milan's Brazilian stopper Julio Cesar, who has been told he can quit the Italian outfit this summer.

Cesar has lost his place in the first-team following the arrival of Samir Handanovic last week, and Spurs believe they can land the 32-year-old for a nominal fee.

The north Londoners are also considering a £6million move for Birmingham City and England teenager Jack Butland, but are yet to make contact.
