Sam Cronin of the San Jose Earthquakes clutched his face following a tackle much to the annoyance of Beckham, who promptly booted a ball at him from 20 yards away.

Cronin's teammates then moved aggressively toward the former England captain who stood his ground, butting heads with another of his opponents.

Beckham was left out of the Team GB football squad for this summer's Olympics much to the annoyance of fans of the talismanic footballer, with coach Stuart Pearce selecting Ryan Giggs, Micah Richards and Craig Bellamy as his three over-23 players for London 2012.

The 37-year-old admitted to being devastated that he will not play for his country at the games, which he played a big in helping secure during 2005's Olympic bid.

Beckham will miss LA Galaxy's next match thanks to the booking, with his bad week being capped off by the side losing the match, dubbed the 'California Clasico', 4-3.

Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has been critical of the decision to leave David out of the 18-man Team GB squad, saying: 'I would have picked him, put him on the bench at the very least.

'I hope he will be involved in some way in the Olympic Games, it's important.'
