*India's five-time boxing world champion MC Mary Kom does not envisage a very tough fight in the Olympics but nevertheless does not want to keep any loose ends in her first appearance. To boost her chances, the Manipuri said she will be sparring with country's London bound men boxers at NIS, Patiala. *
Mary Kom made a shocking quarterfinal exit from the World Championships, the Olympic Games qualifying event at Qinhuangdao, China last week.
Her fate then rested in the hands of her conqueror Nicola Adams of England, whose victory in the semifinal bout gave Mary Kom a berth in the mega event.
The 29-year-old Mary Kom will be the only Indian women boxer in the London Olympics. Women's boxing will make its debut in London Games in three categories — 51kg, 60kg and 75kg.
Mary Kom admits she has lot to improve before the Olympics. "I need to improve in every aspect of fighting, I will be doing more workouts and also work on my mental strength. I will be going to Patiala to train with the boys and this should help me improve," she told reporters here on Monday.
"Only select boxers will be fighting in Olympics, so it should not be that tough. In the world championships there were close to 55 boxers, which raised the level. Even some of the China's 60kg and 75kg boxers failed to qualify."
Mary Kom, who changed her weight category from 48kg to 51 kg, said she is keen to win a medal in London as it will get her due rewards.
"I am a five-time world champion but nobody knows me still. It is tough to get sponsors. If I win a medal at the Olympics I will become popular and hopefully the situation will improve," she said.
Mary Kom, who returned from the World Championships first time without any medal, said she is determined to get the better of the English boxers.
"This time I couldn't come back with a medal but it happens, it is just a game. At the Olympics I assure that I will defeat the English boxers. I have learnt a lot and I know their technique now. I will prepare well," Mary Kom said.
