The 28-year-old has now joined up with the Holland team as they begin preparations for Euro 2012.

But any journalist wanting to get answers about his contract situation with Arsenal will be left disappointed.

'We made a deal with Arsenal and he won't talk to the press,' a spokesman for the Dutch Football Association (the KNVB) said.

Arsenal suffered several embarrassments in the press last year as a result of Cesc Fabregas speaking out about his future while on duty with Spain. He eventually left north London for Barcelona for £30million.

The Gunners are not thought to have demanded the ban on Van Persie speaking but are never-the-less pleased he will not have to answer questions about his future.

The Dutchman held talks with Arsenal officials earlier in the week but the meeting ended without anything being agreed on.

The striker has just one year left on his contract and Arsenal will want the saga to be resolved as soon as possible so it doesn’t drag on like the Fabregas move to Barca.
