*Football fans across the country know the importance of getting behind their teams at this time of the season, but Hartlepool supporters seem to have taken it to the next level.*
More than 150 of the League One club's followers travelled to their final match of the season against Charlton in London yesterday dressed as smurfs.
The Hartlepool smurfs were snapped at one of London's underground stations (Twitter)
The supporters donned the iconic characters' famous blue suits and white hats and, at times, appeared to bring London to a standstill as locals stopped to stare at the bizarre blue invasion.
Unfortunately for the fans of the north-east side, their team could not match their dedication on the pitch, as they went down 3-2 at The Valley to the division's champions.
But that did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the Hartlepool followers, who were pictured on the Tube, in the stadium and waiting for trains at various stations in the capital.
Their eye-catching display has led to them becoming a Twitter and Facebook favourite, with users across the country sharing images of the memorable sight.
Unfortunately for United, they will not be able to make the same trip again next season as Charlton will move into the Championship, but that is not to say it is the end of the supporters' crazy costumes.
