Will Clarke: I'm worthy of final triathlon spot for London OlympicsReported by Metro.co.uk on Monday, 23 April 2012 (on April 23, 2012)
*Olympic triathlon hopeful Will Clarke has said he hopes he has proved to Britain's Olympic selectors that he is the 'third best Brit' in the event.*
Brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee have taken two of the three spots on the British triathlon team, but Clarke is hoping he will land the third.
It is likely that he will go head to head with rival athlete Tim Don for the final qualifying place.
'Hopefully I have proved to the selectors that I'm the third best Brit,' he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
'It would be nice to know whether or not I'm going. It's kind of stressful and it's not the ideal situation,' he said.
'But I can only control trying to get as fit as possible and proving I'm the third best Brit and should go.'
The 27-year-old ranked ninth in the 2011 World Championship Series after securing his first podium finish in Hamburg with second place.
Furthermore, he was the highest British finisher in Sydney earlier this year, although neither of the Brownlees competed in the event.
Clarke also told the radio station: 'If I qualify for London it will be the biggest race of my career, no matter how many Olympics I go to.
'It will be really cool racing in front of family and friends in my home country.'
