With the 2012 London summer Olympics just weeks away, the US Olympic team is in the thick of making final preparations for the games. BMW will be providing financial support and access to BMW technologies to Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
With the 2012 London summer Olympics just weeks away, the US Olympic team is in the thick of making final preparations for the games. BMW will be providing financial support and access to BMW technologies to Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
One of the ways BMW is helping the Olympians is by creating the 2012 BMW Performance Team. This team includes 11 athletes from various sports (swimming, gymnastics, triathlon, track & field, cycling and sailing). BMW is helping these athletes by modifying some of its advanced vision technology to track the velocity of the athletes as they train. This will help their coaches get a more accurate look at exactly what the athlete is doing.
BMW will also be providing a fleet of 4,000 vehicles, mostly low-emission diesel, hybrid, and electric cars, motorcycles, and even BMW bicycles to help transport officials, athletes, and their families.
BMW also helped redesign the Olympic torch so that it wouldn’t burn out during the torch run. BMW used its wind tunnels and climate test rooms to put the torch through some extreme testing, and the torch stayed lit the entire time.
