Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 21, 2012

Patty Carroll will be exhibiting her latest series of photographs Anonymous Women at the Chicago Cultural Center of Chicago from July 21 to September 30, 2012. The opening reception will take place on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Chicago Cultural Center located at 78 E. Washington Street, Chicago, IL on the First Floor Michigan Ave Galleries.

Carroll’s series, Anonymous Women, features photographs of faceless figures draped in striking fabrics and textiles. Pieces from the series have previously been exhibited at Shanghai University’s renowned gallery space in the M50 district, as well as at White Box Museum in Beijing, as well as Northern Illinois University Museum. Her work is well known for her visual play on domestic objects and their relationships to women. Carroll is currently Adjunct Full Professor of Photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at Columbia College Chicago. She is a distinguished photographic artist with a deep interest in American popular culture, and has published and exhibited widely on American cultural topics including Elvis Impersonators, American suburban lawns, resorts at night, as well as women. Her books include: Spirited Visions: Portraits of Chicago Artists, Living the Life: the World of Elvis Tribute Artists, Culture is Everywhere with Victor Margolin, and her latest book, Man Bites Dog, with renowned culinary historian, Dr. Bruce Kraig, will be published later this fall.

Patty Carroll has stated about her work: “I believe that every artist has a moment or time which became a defining point in their life view, and as we struggle to discover it, we repeat work trying to either recreate that moment, or possibly redefine it. As our inner and outer worlds collide, photography seems to be the most satisfying way of expressing that convergence.” Her latest series echoes this statement.

Regarding this series in particular, Carroll states, "Making a home, whether through physical renovation or an internal sense of comfort, remains a constant, universal issue for many women. As a woman artist, I am addressing multiple issues of domesticity; the home can be a place of comfort, a place where decoration becomes an obsession, or where a woman merges with her domestic interior to become almost invisible." Carroll artistically plays with ideas behind home decor, providing humor, solace and dread.
