Leading sports publication ranks Saint Leo’s degree among the top programs in the world

Saint Leo University’s online MBA programs for sport business has been ranked number 17 globally by the magazine SportBusiness International in its May 2012 issue. This is the first time the periodical, published by London-based Sport Business Group, has created a ranking of post-baccalaureate programs in sport business. The publication used information collected from the Donald R. Tapia School of Business, and from alumni, in making its determinations.
SportBusiness International is a monthly magazine that delivers independent, unbiased information, analysis and insight into the fast-growing global sports sector—an industry estimated to be worth $435 billion, according to Plunkett Research, Ltd.
The Saint Leo University MBA Sport Business Concentration was the first program accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) in 2010. Saint Leo is the only university that offers online MBA programs with a sport business concentration.
The Saint Leo program builds on traditional MBA core courses in organizational behavior, human resource management, accounting, finance and management, and adds specialized course material in the strategic management, legal, sales, marketing, facility planning, risk management, and financial aspects of sport business.
The MBA with sports business concentration prepares students for careers with professional sport franchises, facilities, sporting goods retailers and athletic departments. A majority of the students enrolled in Saint Leo’s program range from 25-49 years old—a mix of career changers and professionals who already work in the sport industry field and want to advance, according to Eric Schwarz, chair of the Department of Sport Business & International Tourism at Saint Leo University. Schwarz is an associate professor and lead author of two textbooks, Advanced Theory and Practice in Sport Marketing and Sport Facility Operations Management: A Global Perspective.
Saint Leo University is accredited regionally by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Additionally, the Donald R. Tapia School of Business is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. In addition to the sports business concentration, the university offers online MBA programs with concentrations in accounting, health care management, information security management and marketing.
